So uh, wow, yeah... by evening that sore deltoid was bad enough that I couldn't lift my arm sideways by more than 45° before encountering significant pain. (No pain while the muscle wasn't being used, though.)

Overnight it improved; I can now lift my arm to 135°. Probably will be fine by evening.
